They are in fact grouped into 5 classes with increasing performance characteristics.<\/p>\n<p>The European standard for the classification of filters EN 1822-1:2009 refers to the classes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>E10-E12 (<u>EPA<\/u>) high efficiency class also called \u201csemi-absolute filters\u201d;<\/li>\n<li>H13\u2013H14 (<u>HEPA<\/u>) very high efficiency class also called \u201cabsolute filters\u201d;<\/li>\n<li>U15\u2013U17 (<u>ULPA<\/u>) very low penetration class.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nThe rating of the filter presents an index of least efficiency or maximum penetration, for a specific particle size.
